When I first ventured into HR over 15 years ago, it was called Personnel and known for 'Tea and Sympathy'. Since then, HR has changed considerably. There is recognition that HR play a vital role in supporting the business to achieve its goals, through effective management of talent, absence and performance.
I have spent the last 15 years working in the 3 main sectors - Private, Public and Not for Profit. I have experience in Education, Environment, Engineering, FMCG, Call Centre and Finance. Over this time i have gained a wealth of experience - there aren't many issues that I haven't come across!
I completed my Professional Qualifications in 2001, and gained Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in 2005. I've also completed courses in Coaching and Mediation and regularly attend Employment Law updates.
I believe that with effective honest communication, everyone can achieve their potential, and contribute to the companies goals. Staff can only do this through effective management. I can coach managers to be honest and fair to get the best from staff.
HR must be commercially focused - there is no point in me producing documents that just don't work for your organisation, thats why i will get to know your business, through talking to you and maybe your staff, to understand the culture of the organisation, before I write the documents.
Outside work I'm married with 2 'grown up and flown the nest' sons. If I'm not working you'll find me at the gym, in the garden or the kitchen, or relaxing with a glass of wine!
